The Kobe Kitano Museum of Art occupies the former US Consulate building, a historic architectural specimen dating back to 1898. Since 1996, a year after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake struck, it has operated as Kobe Kitano Art Museum, and is currently home to the \"Painters of. Montmartre – Kobe Kitano and Paris Montmartre's Friendship Exhibition\" Visitors can also view historical documents from the Kitano district of Kobe, including the first state-owned olive garden in Japan. The hotel is the base for an association promoting and preserving the Kitano and Yamamoto districts, as well as being home to the secretariat of the Kobe International Olive Academy. Beautifully conveying the culture and history of Kobe's ijinkan foreign residences, this remains an art museum full of charm.
