Opening of "The Hassam House," an important cultural asset.
The Former J.K. Hassam Residence, considered an Important Cultural Asset, will be opened to the public. Mr Hassam, a British trader, built the residence in Kitano 2-Chome in 1902. It is a western-style 2-story building, designed by a British architect. It was relocated to Sorakuen in 1963. Two gaslights at the front garden of the residence, built in 1874, made for the original Foreigner’s settlement, were also relocated to Sorakuen.
