This Japanese-style house standing beside the Sumiyoshi River is where Jun'ichirō Tanizaki, a major writer of Japanese literature lived for about seven years from Nov. 1936 to Nov. 1943. One of his greatest literary works, The Makioka Sisters (Sasameyuki or \"light snow\" in Japanese) was based on his experiences living in this house with his wife Matsuko and her sisters. To allow visitors to learn know more about Tanizaki and his writing, the author`s books and many other reference books can be found on the first floor of the building.
